CFMX Hosting (soon to be BlueThunder Hosting) is a trading name of BlueThunder Internet Ltd. We are a provider of high quality business hosting services. We provide the usual ASP, PHP, .NET but we specialise in ColdFusion and we have over 10 years experience in hosting, ColdFusion Development and consulting.
As Certified ColdFusion professionals we are able to offer a much more extensive level of support for ColdFusion users than other hosting companies who simply install it on their server and offering ColdFusion hosting. We also have technical experience in other languages too and we will not blindly install or support something without first investigating it.
We will always try to accommodate our customers and provide any additional service or feature outside of our standard hosting packages wherever posisble. This is another advantage of using a hosting company with in-house developers and technical support staff, we understand what can and cannot be achieved and what is safe to implement in a shared hosting environment. We wont just tell that you cannot do something, we will explain why. You will never get useless canned responses from non technical support monkey's, if support staff cannot answer your query, they will find the answer from someone who can.
We support such things as custom mappings, custom tags, 3rd party software and applications, security sandboxing and more.

Providing a quality service and first class support has always been our core objective and we think we have suceeded in this, a fact which is hilighted by the high number of positive reviews we have. We will NEVER out source our support, in fact you will find that many other hosts regularly use our blogs and knowledgebase to solve their issues and even contact us directly when they get really stuck.
What makes us different from other hosts?
To put it simply, we care about what we do and we care about our customers. Sure you can get cheaper hosting elsewhere, but will you get the same level of expertise, support and service levels from a cheap bulk host, we don't think so.
You need to consider many things when looking for a reliable host so we have compiled a little check list for you below. If you are consider other hosts as well, try asking your potential host questions about some of the points below and see if they can answer them. If you are considering using us, then you can of course ask us the same questions too and test our knowledge..
| Data Protection and Security. |
Every web site on our servers runs under its own Windows user account which enforces security permissions so that each site only has access to its own files and folders. This means other customers on the server cannot gain access to your files and folders using things like the FileSystemObject via ASP, which is enabled on most hosts servers. We lock down Microsoft.net to run only in medium trust mode, and PHP and ASP only have access as detailed above. Our servers are tested to be fully PCI DSS compliant. |
| ColdFusion Security |
| Many hosts will blindly claim to support ColdFusion, without having any understanding of how it works, sometimes even without any understand of how a server or security works. Often as a result their servers are usually insecure and any customer on the server can read/write/delete other customers files using dangerous tags and functions which have been left enabled. Being ColdFusion experts and because we specialise, we have a solid understanding of the technology and what we are doing with it, and as a result our servers are more secure. We also run the enterprise edition of ColdFusion, allowing us to sandbox and secure customer sites. Most hosts only run the professional version of ColdFusion because it is cheaper but which cannot be secured and is limited in other ways. We also disable all dangerous ColdFusion tags by default; such as CFFILE, CFDIRECTORY, CFCONTENT, CFFTP, CFHTTP and any tag/function that allows you to read/write files. We then provide customers with a security sandbox on request to allow them to securely use these tags. Any host that has these tags enabled by default is allowing you or any other customer to copy/edit/delete files anywhere on the server. This means your data is not secure and neither is the server. |
| Server Stability |
| Our servers are dedicated to specific tasks, making them more stable. A lot of cheap hosting companies will host the web sites, stats, databases, email and more all on the same server, this creates many more possible points of failure and puts a much higher load on a server and seriously decreases performance, security and reliability. We do not do this. We have dedicated servers for each task, e.g web, mail, stats, databases etc, each will be on it's own server. We also have server performance monitoring in place to tell us if a server is behaving badly. |
| Uptime |
Every host has problems with their servers crashing, this cannot be helped. With several hundred customers on each server, many of them will often be running badly-written or untested code that will cause the server to fall over. This is the disadvantage with shared hosting. When this happens most hosts will simply reboot the server. If there is a recurring problem with a specific web site this could result in a lot of rebooting and down time. If you have a business critical web site that must be up all the time, or an e-commerce web site that is your primary source of income, we would strongly suggest that you do not rely on shared hosting and be subjected to the activities of other customers. If your website and business is important to you, then only a dedicated solution will do. |
| Pricing |
| A lot of customers are tempted by hosts with stupidly cheap prices. What they do not realise is that this comes with another cost. You will not usually get the same kind of support from these hosts as they cannot afford to hire qualified tech support staff with such low prices. In most cases their entire system will be completely automated with no contactable human beings, and any support staff they do have will be non technical helpdesk operators that will simply lookup questions in an FAQ and read you the default response. This type of service is fine for personal home pages or business card web sites where no support is likely to be required, and security, uptime and reliability is not important. I.E. if your web site does go down, you probably wont notice and neither will anyone else. Additionally their servers will be low quality and built from cheap components to keep costs down. All our servers are custom built using the highest quality off the shelf components. Cheap hosts often go out of buisness within a year as they are operating at a loss, or worse a cheap hosting company will setup, take everyones money and then close down purposefully, leaving all their customers to find a new host. | As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. At BlueThunder Internet you get knowledgeable sales and support staff who know what they are talking about, can advise you about solutions best fitting your requirements and help you solve technical problems. You know you have real qualified people at the end of the phone if you need them, and that someone will actually care if your server or web site goes down. Customer service is also very important to us. We have a good reputation, and we intend to keep it. It's not possible to make everyone happy all of the time, but we try our best. |
